RETIRED BROODMARES

BLESSED ARE THE BROODMARES

Blessed are the broodmares in the field,
Patiently carrying their heavy load
Without complaint waiting for the big day,
When they, without a sound, lay down in the straw

And then the most amazing thing happens,
The miracle of a brand new life.
Now the everlasting circle is complete,
The amazing wonder of a living thing.

The foundation stock of every breed,
How fast we all happen to forget,
Where all our champions came from.
How fast we are to discard the blessed ones.

When they get too old or unproductive,
The most tolerant members of every breed,
Raising their young without ever a mumble,
Loyal beyond everyone’s compare.

Till they go on to raise the next one,
When will we finally wake up and see
How enormously grateful we should be
For the blessed ones we so easily forget?

Premium-Eligible GALALEA - "Gala"

2000 Hanoverian mare - Grand Cru/Sonnenstrahl/Albatsohn -16.3h

RIP 2022

Gala is by the well renowned G-line stallion Grand Cru, and out of a substantial German Trakehner dam. She was born in Germany and has had several foals here in America, including the BWP-licensed/approved stallion Citadel VS. She is an elite-scoring mare with the American Hanoverian Society. Unfortunately, due to a neck injury during her import from Europe she never began a riding career, but has certainly been a wonderful broodmare! Gala is sweet and gentle, as her G-line sire is so famous for. Her foals make fantastic amateur horses with plenty of power and suspension to have very high collective marks. Photos of prior offspring included in her gallery below.

About Grand Cru: (From "International Horse Breeders")

The sire of Grand Cru, Grand Garcon was a Grand Prix show jumper under Gerd Wiltfang before retiring to stud. As a sire, his progeny are to be found in the fore front of both show jumping and dressage, a fact which has placed their sire in a front position in the FN breeding value ratings. Grand Cru is bred out of a celebrated dam line. Athene also produced Walk on Top, German Riding Horse Champion and Swedish Olympic Dressage Team member. He is a stallion hard to be surpassed as regards character, presence and demeanour. He is clearly bequeathed with the eminent Trakehner charisma, and closely related to the stallions Admiral 1 & 11. He has wonderful rideability, his movements being enhanced with rhythm and cadence. Grand Cru is described as ‘good to excellent’ in the jumping category. He is a beautiful, large-framed stallion from the famous Grande line, and of very good type. Here is a lovely horse with great ability: an ingenious combination of Thoroughbred and old established Hanoverian lines.

Grand Cru produces horses of substance, with the mind, movement, athletic ability and charm to go to the top. He passes on strong dressage tendencies, and his daughter Gina won the broodmare performance class at the Louis Wiegels Show in 1999. He has 8 licensed sons, 54 state premium mares, 241 main stud book mares, and 96 auction horses. He improves in his offspring for riding type, dressage ability and jumping.

From the BWP about the licensed stallion, Citadel VS, Gala's 2014 colt:

Citadel VS is an exciting young stallion with exceptional quality and presence. While he is clearly of very modern type, at over 17hh as a 3 year old he has the size, correctness and substance of bone that benefited the more classical sporthorses. He carries the beautiful head, neck and topline of his sire Clinton, and the phenomenal movement of his dam and damsire Grand Cru. This long-legged, uphill stallion has been described by several top trainers as ‘incredibly elastic, light and athletic’, ‘supple and catlike’ and having ‘the best canter I have ever sat on.’ His jumping technique is textbook by any standard. He is incredibly clever and careful while free jumping, with the style in front of a top hunter and nothing less than an extravagant hind end.

At the 2017 BWP stallion inspection he received the huge score of 85 in the free jumping phase by the Belgian judge, who commented, “He has very good technique both front and hind legs and use of back.” He received his provisional license in 2017 with an overall impression score of 80. Citadel VS has been a highly attentive and easy stallion to start under saddle and will begin his competitive career in 2018. We are excited to see his first foal crop in spring of 2018, as breeders have chosen him to produce both high performance hunters and top showjumpers.

Citadel VS is by the Ambassadeur stallion Clinton (Corrado 1) who was a phenomenon in the international and Olympic showjumping arena. In breeding, Clinton is unrivaled as the sire of more than 50 licensed stallions, including legendary Cornet Obolensky, Eldorado van de Zeshoek, Zacharov TN, Whitaker, and numerous other international superstars. Citadels VS’s dam is Elite Mare Candidate Galalea, by the foundation stallion Grand Cru, who carried on the infamous G line from the state stud at Celle, Germany. Dr. Ludwig Christmann, director of the Hanoverian Verband’s breeding program, has often referenced Grand Cru as a very special stallion, and directs and re-directs breeders to Grand Cru to improve sporthorse blood in both jumping and dressage. Grand Cru is renowned as a top sire of numerous High Performance Hunters and USEF Year End Award winners."

Gala produced many excellent foals in her lifetime. At Telos Farm she produced Heart Song TF (EH Herzensdieb) in 2020, Hopscotch TF (EH Herzensdieb in 2021) and Seventh Heaven TF (Gaudi SSF) in 2022.

HOPE OF TANTRIS - "Talhia"

2015 Trakehner Mare - Tantris/Abdullah Pg*E*/Amiego Ps*E* -  17.3h

RIP 2021

Bred by Telos Farm, LLC

A homebred "keeper filly" and broodmare prospect for us! 'Talhia' is out of our Trakehner mare Hallalujah Anyway, a seasoned and successful Dressage competitor, loaded with athletic jumper heritage. Talhia is sired by the German imported Oldenburg Tantris (GOV) who is by Traumdeuter (TRK) and with the mare line of Rubina-Aktuell, which consistently appears in stallions within the top 10 WBFSH rankings for dressage including several from Blue Hors Stud. Tantris competed in FEI dressage well into his 20's and is known around the US for his rideability and passing on feet with tough soles and good angles. Talhia is no exception and in fact we purchased her dam specifically for this cross with Tantris. Sadly her dam passed away before we could make more of this magical cross, but are grateful for the two we produced Talladega (2014) and Talhia (2015).

Talhia received all 8's (premium level scoring) at her weanling ATA inspection with comments about her lovely eye and expressive, athletic gaits.

As a yearling in 2016, Talhia scored a 72.6% at a Chicago area USDF in hand show and was the highest in-hand score of the show. She will be bred as a 3 year old and then taking some time off to compete with Sarah in young horse and material classes for a few years. We also hope to complete her Mare Performance test and mare inspection with ATA when she is 5. Talhia was approved for the American Rhinelander studbook in 2019.

Talhia produced stunning colts by Rascalino (May 2019) and Gaudi SSF (July 2021)

HALLALUJAH ANYWAY - 2000 Trakehner mare - Abdullah*Pg*E*/Amiego*Ps*E*/Graditz*E* - 17.0h

RIP (2018)

"Danika" scored a high '54' at her American Trakehner Association inspection with 8's on her type, gaits, and walk. Danika is line-bred to the immortal Abiza, called the most influential Trakehner mare in the 20th century. Danika competed in dressage successfully through 2nd level, and was ranked USDF National reserve champion at first level until an injury changed her focus to broodmare-extraordinaire. Her sire, Abdullah *Pg*E* was a show jumping phenom in the 80's winning international competitions and was an Olympic Gold Medalist. Her dam sire, Amiego *Ps*E*, was a bronze medalist at the Pan Am games in eventing, and was exported from the US to Germany (yes, out of the US to Germany!)as a breeding stallion. Abiza, the dam of both Abdullah and Amiego was considered by many to be the most influential Trakehner mare of the 20th century. She also was exported back to Europe after a short time in the states. We are so lucky to have a line-bred Abiza mare as a broodmare.

Danika herself is a kind, gentle, trusting, and confident mare. She had four excellent feet, even with no clubbing and very solid walls. She passed on her versatile Trakehner athleticism and laid back personality to her offspring. Both her 2014 colt and 2015 filly received 'premium' marks by the German Oldenburg Verband and American Trakehner Association, respectively. Her 2008 filly by Devon Heir was recently the CDA 2016 1st level freestyle champion!

Danika produced Talladega (2014) and Hope of Tantris (2015), both by Tantris. She also had a lovely filly named Dasha by Devon Heir prior to coming to our farm.

LUCYNDA *P* - "Lucy"

Retired from breeding... Sadly Lucy only ever had one foal (deceased) by Hancock *Pb* in 2018. She is now enjoying semi-retirement and is having fun in low jumpers and dressage at Albion College for the 21-22 school year.

2001 Trakehner Mare - Onassis *E*/Condus*E*/Siegbert - 16.1h

By Onassis *E* (sire of Tatendrang *Pb*). Out of Leto, a full sister to Grand Prix champion Leonidas *Pg *E*. This mare was bred by Hilda Gurney and had a successful jumper career on the West Coast, including the honor of the ATA low jumper horse of the year in 2011. Sarah completed her Mare Performance test in 2016 and she is now known as Lucynda *P*.  She was als  Reserve Champion at the Annual Meeting inspection that year with a score of 52.

Lucy is an extremely athletic and courageous mare. In  addition to being a careful jumper, she showed great promise for cross country at an Andreas Dibowski clinic, navigating various cross country fences for the first time ever with relative ease. She has naturally uphill and expressive gaits for dressage, completing the ideal for the versatile Trakehner horse. Lucy has also competed in endurance, and at the age of 17 had all A's on her vet cards during and after several 30 mile (LD) races.

Sadly, after 4 years of trying, Lucy was not able to produce a foal for us. We decided to retire her from breeding in 2019.

RED ROBIN - 2008 Hanoverian mare - Rienzi/Donnerhall/Feiner Stern - 15.2h

Sold, Congratulations to Ashley Nilsen of Utah!

"Robin" is a product of the Marefield Meadows breeding program. Her full sister was the 2014 National AHS Futurity Champion and this cross was repeated by Marefield THREE times! She is by ES Rienzi and out of Elite Mare Dauphine, who is a full sister to the German stallion Dauphin (by Donnerhall). We are very lucky to have a mare with the immortal Donnerhall as her dam sire! Robin is extremely sweet and kind. If she could fit through our front door, you would find her on the couch with her head on your lap. She is extremely sensible and takes all training and new situations extremely well. A true amateur's dream horse! All the same, her gaits are professional quality with extreme power from behind and great schwung. Her strong traditional Hanoverian blood gives her a clean, clear, rhythmic walk, and a balanced canter. Her feet are incredible - no flaring, very symmetrical, strong walls and good concavity with tough soles.

We decided to retain Robin's 2018 filly by Furst Rousseau and so Robin has gone on to a new family to give them some of her wonderful bloodlines! Other foals out of Robin include Skylark (2016, by Supremat), Wings (2017, by Werbellin) and Santino (2019, by Supremat).

WAI ELE - 2002 Hanoverian Mare - Wild Card/Wertherson/Prize Ring

Sold! Congratulations to Kelly Wojtech of Colorado!

"Elle" is approved for breeding in the Hanoverian, German Oldenburg Verband, Dutch Warmblood (KWPN), and Oldenburg-NA/ISR studbooks. She has had four foals of exceptional quality, including a Premium 2014 GOV colt who was the high score at his inspection site. Elle combines the best W-line Hanoverian pedigrees. She is by WildCard  who is from the Wenzel I sire line and Pik Koenig mare line. Her dam is a Wertherson Hanoverian mare. Wai Ele is a sensitive mare who is very in tune to her rider's aids and tries very hard to please. Though she is a scopey, athletic jumper through the chute, her real talent is in dressage. She has an excellent ability to sit behind and collect, and has a very active and quick hind leg. She passes on her fancy, lofty gaits to her offspring, as well as refined and modern type. Elle has spent her life as a broodmare, but was started under saddle this summer. She is showing great scope over fences! View her full pedigree here: http://www.sporthorse-data.com/db.php?i=11004802&time=1444182949

Elle produced the colt, Toblerone, by Tantris in 2014.
